- Nico Robin
Nico Robin from One Piece:
Water 7 Arc
Worn at Otakon and AUSA 2009
I've been dying to do a One Piece
cosplay for a while, and who better to cosplay
than Nico Robin!
When I decided to cosplay Robin,
I had just finished the Thriller Bark arc, but
wasn't a fan of her outfit during the saga. I
wanted to keep the cosplay simple and recognizable.
Her outfit from Enies Lobby/Water 7 fit both criteria.
The costume construction was easier
than finding the 'perfect' fabric to work with.
Instead of using super shiny material I wanted
to go with a matte look. Fortunately I found the
perfect material that gave (as in slight stretch)
just enough, was durable and has a smooth feel.
(Sometimes I get so excited about fabrics, even
the simple ones.) I worked off of a dress that
came pretty close to Nico's and made an altered
pattern from that. I had to keep in mind that
my body shape was going to change once I slipped
into my corset; an important item I ended up purchasing
more than halfway through my construction process.
The dress didn't turn out perfect due to slight
miscalculation and a last minute change in corsets....which
made me a different shape altogether. *sigh* In
almost every picture the corset sticks out around
the belly area.
I had to purchase blue contact lenses,
ridiculously painful boots, a corset, two wigs
and breast inserts. Yes, I did say breast inserts.
Robin is HUGE and since I am not that well endowed,
I had to make due with other means.
